Early in 2018 we announced our intention to sunset the PayPal payment option on United Baristas Marketplace.
This was because we had introduced the payment escrow service, and:
- PayPal requires a verified account, which some personal accounts have not completed and the owners of the accounts are unlikely to do just to list on United Baristas Marketplace
- PayPal payment protections vary depending on whether its a person or a company acting, so its difficult for United Baristas to communicate a clear proposition about their services to our community
However, some users prefer PayPal, have asked us to maintain its integration into United Baristas Marketplace and have stuck with it when we introduced a 2% seller surcharge on PayPal payments.
We have decided to open the option of retaining PayPal as a payment option on United Baristas Marketplace and now want to work out how it would work in practice. If we can identify a strong use case, we can re-consider the decision to sunset support. In the interim, we'll retain the current set up, structure, fees and messaging.
How do you use PayPal? Why do you want the option to pay or receive funds via PayPal? And are you happy to pay a premium to use it (the fees are significantly higher than the payment escrow service)?
We want to be able to offer a standard, safe and straightforward service for all our users, but on the other hand some users seem to really value PayPal and are using it regularly and successfully.
